Cameron is a freelance writer/CD in Austin. He’s the son of Guy Day (co-founder of Chiat/Day) and the “PAST” page on his site is a who’s-who list of amazing clients and agencies. Clicking through his work, you see why—great writing all over the place. So what does MC choose to feature? A grocery bag, of course! It just perfectly sums up what a copywriter’s portfolio should be about. You may spend 30 years writing the hell out of everything from Super Bowl TV to Rolling Stone print, but in the end it’s that grocery bag you nailed that makes it to the top. Great writing is great writing, no matter where it appears. Love it.

That’s our Cam. Good writers know that to ignore little opportunities like this is death. Touchpoints like this are what make brands truly resonate. Smart dude, smart execution.
Bravo! Love smart writing and unconventional solutions. Way to go, Cameron.
I’m stoked to see Cameron’s work here today on MC. He’s a heck of a dude and a fierce talent. Yeah, that Central Market grocery bag isn’t just a bag, it’s got soul. Cheers to Cameron.
Hey, so great to see Cameron here! Great writer and one of the most passionate dudes I’ve ever worked with.
I’ve known Cam for a long time and have had the privilege to work with him many times. Mix equal parts talent and drive and that’s Cameron Day. Okay, maybe you have to leave a percentage open for the hot rodder part too.
Cam’s not only a brilliant creative, but he’s also a great mentor to those who are still new to the game. Hit him up if you need some guidance.
Nice work (as always) Cam! If any of you out there are considering him, he’s a talented writer and a good dude.
Congrats Cam! Great dude, love his writing. Love this! -P
Cam is the real deal. In every way.
Worked with Cam years ago but his talent and all-around niceness made a lasting impression. Even a paper bag embodies the charm and humanity that’s emblematic of his work.
Always reminds me the keep up the passion and intensity. Definitely one of the greats still making it happen.
Cam and I first met at GSD&M. Not every day you run into a writer that’s as comfortable working on Land Rover as he is Shiner Beer. That’s how you can tell a great creative. Doesn’t matter what sandbox they’re playing in, they nail it every time. Cam did. And does. Bliss to you, my brotha.
One thing I’ve come to appreciate, above all else, about Cam’s talents, is how he can write appropriately in any category. And he can def write his way out of a paper bag…
After having worked with him early in our careers, I can attest that Cameron in one of the best in the business. Plus, his knowledge of vintage vans is unrivaled.
There isn’t a bag big enough to hold this guy’s talent. Everything he does is smart and crafted. (Well, at least in advertising.) Not surprised to see his work showcased here.
I was too stupid to listen to my father when I was a young creative, so I always asked my brother for advice. It was always smart, unquestionably fair, and to my eternal shame, often ignored. We all know how that worked out.
Cam, on the other hand, leaned on my dad’s brain as often as possible, and coupled with his own excellent instincts, parlayed it into an excellent career. He’s single-handedly made sure the name Day still garners the respect it deserves, and I could not be more proud of him.
Brilliantly done Cameron. Taking the foundations of the medium and making them emotional for the audience, even on a paper shopping bag, is incredibly smart. I would lobby Central Market for free groceries for a year…
I really like Cam as a person. (Who doesn’t?) But kinda hate him as a copywriter. Hard to compete with that kind of creative brain. Dude has jumper cables connected to his synapses.
I’ve known Cameron since the last century. Good guy. Solid writer. And who doesn’t appreciate a car guy?
The written version of nail hit on head. No doubt some of Cameron’s words have ended up under sinks, while others have been higher than a kite. But I’ll bet most of the time they’ve done the heavy lifting and made it look easy. Write on.
Love this! People like Cameron keep life interesting!😉
Cam and I met many years ago, and I’ve always admired the fresh and unexpected approach with which he would attack a concept. That of course, was only the first half of his mastery, the next part was the skill and dedication he put into the craft of actual writing. A real pro. These days, it’s my privilege to be able to call on him from time to time as a well-seasoned hired gun who I can rely on to take aim and always hit the target. Congrats Cam.
Cameron Day makes words pretty.
His father and I share the same forename.
That means Cam and I are practically related.
When we work together we become Guy Day.
Onward.
Well, f*ing finally! Great to see one of the best up here. World class writer + stand up guy = ROI. Plus he rebuilds old vans.
Warm, fuzzy – total style.
Very well written. 😉
Having had the pleasure of partnering with Cam, I can say he never stops searching for the gold nuggets that turn into memorable ideas.
It takes a real writer to make you jealous of a goddamn grocery bag.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with a few great writers over my career and Cameron was up there with the best! Great ad and copy for the grocery store. Keep me coming Cam.
The greatest ideas are so often the simplest. I saw first hand how his simply brilliant mind worked back in the day at GSD&M. The bag is perfect. The words make it human. You need good words, put Cameron on speed dial. Besides his cars are cooler than yours.
Long copy is alive and well, thanks to passionate writers like Cam. You can see that love for language in Land Rover and Central Market alone. He’s always been that way. When I first met him, I felt a bit intimidated. That lasted a whole five seconds as he turned out to be a kind, genuine dude who had no room for ego with all the talent he had. All of these comments are no surprise to me or anyone who wants to work with him. Clearly, the real deal.
Echoing the majority of Cam’s kudos. Truly a great guy and writer. Even when I was an intern at BBDO, eons ago, Cam was kind enough to chat with low man on the totem pole and not make me spit shine his boots. Much respect.
Every time I’ve worked with Cam, I’ve come away a better writer. The hair may be grey, the words may be wise, but beneath it all, he’s still a guy who loves burning a candle and cranking some lines. Kudos, my friend!
Just when you think there’s nothing original left, along comes Cam. A stellar writer, always coming up with the most unexpected, effective and memorable ways to communicate the message. If I were half the writer he is, I’d be twice the writer I am. Always at the top of his game, both as a writer and a human being. Great to see his work up here.
Gotta love it! This is the kind of work that keeps me going.
Simply Brilliant.
Congrats Cam!
Cam is a pleasure to work with and a incredibly creative writer despite his obsession with orthopedic shoes.
Incredibly smart, insightful and funny. I hate the bastard.
I love Cameron. His writing and ideas, too. Creatives don’t get much better.
Congrats brother.
When asked, “Paper or plastic?” I always choose Cameron. The work is both clever and elegant.
Spend five minutes talking to Cam and you’ll learn something new. Whether it’s advertising or custom shift knobs, his passion for creative pursuits is genuine. That authenticity shows up in his work, and he’s one of the rare super talents who doesn’t need to be an asshole to be a rock star. I love the guy. Especially when he buys me beer.
When it comes to writing, Cam’s in rarefied air. When it comes to mentorship, I know none better. Happy to count this man among my friends, and even more so among my teachers. Get his number, and take his advice.
