Casey Rand

Casey is a copywriter at BBDO NY. In the year-and-a-half since she graduated from VCU, she’s put together a really fun portfolio, including that AT&T spot with the Jr. Assistant who runs around getting stuff for Mariah Carey. Love when he kicks the elevator button. Perfect ending. She’s also got a killer blog called People Who Deserve It. Getting punched in the face, that is. Soon to be a book.

Martin Peters Ginsborg

Martin is a freelance copywriter in NYC, after having spent time at McCann, mcgarrybowen, Cliff Freeman, D’Arcy and Wunderman. Lots of big idea visual print campaigns in his book. My fave is his Sketchbook (in Extras, third column down). You get to see inside Martin’s brain. Which, no coincidence, is full of big idea visual madness, and I mean that in a very good way. Wish more copywriters included sketchbooks – or something like them – on their sites. How great would it be to see a Janet Champ, Brock Davis, or Max Godsil sketchbook?

Barbara Kopeloff

Barbara is a senior copywriter at Tribal DDB in NYC, Ogilvy and R/GA and Big Spaceship before that. With all of that awesome interactive experience, and projects like HBO Voyeur, Nike+ and OfficeMax Arcade in her portfolio, what does Barbara’s site look like? Some big interactive production? Nope. Nine projects you can click through in about two minutes. And all of the info you could want for each project, right there, easy as Sunday morning.

Daniel Cohen

Dan is a copywriter/SVP/CD at Publicis NY, JWT and DDB before that. I like how his site works. On the left is a small, simple nav box that shifts up and down so it stays vertically centered. The main window background changes to match the product/brand of the creative being featured. And despite Dan’s years in the biz, it’s a tight book: 9 TV, 10 print, 4 web, 2 entertainment.

Matt MacDonald

Matt is a copywriter/CD at JWT NY, Bates before that. His bio reads that his “career goal is to make advertising people don’t hate.” Well, he’s done a hell of a lot better than that. Snake a bottle of the good stuff out of your agency’s client stash, shake it up dry, and sneak off somewhere you can be alone for 15 minutes. This is a great one.

Mark Cacciatore

Mark is a freelance copywriter/CD in NYC. Before going freelance, he was an ECD, GCD, CD or ACD at oneseven, Saatchi, Y&R, Ammirati, BBDO, and DDB. To go through the work on his site, you first combine two heads representing new school and old school Mark into one mutant creature. Then you grab the mutant creature’s head and slide it down through campaigns that range from classic Cheerios TV to fun interactive banners for Ford.

Kent Koren

Kent is a freelance copywriter in New York City. He’s done a little of everything, including stand-up at The Laugh Factory, writing for Cartoon Network and Playboy TV’s Naked News, and being a page on Letterman. So, imagine Kent’s brain. Now, imagine Kent’s brain online. Yes, his blog site is a little nuts. Yes, it’s all a little raw. But still, I laughed. Out loud.

Colin Nissan

Colin is a freelance copywriter in NYC, Goodby before that. There are a couple of not-miss pieces on his site that I must point out and you Must. Not. Miss. Under Internet, check out the HBO short films directed by Sam Mendes. And under Writing, go to McSweeney’s Humor Essays and read “It’s Decorative Gourd Season, Motherfuckers”. It made coffee shoot out my nose.

Ben Huser

Ben is a copywriter at Grey NY. Before that, he was an intern at The Village Voice. He graduated from Duke in ’05 and already has a nice reel (Captain Morgan, E*Trade) on his site and a Gold Pencil on his mantel. Except he’s in NYC, so the Gold Pencil is probably on top of his mini-fridge.

Tim Wassler

Tim is a freelance copywriter in NYC after 3+ years at Chiat. He’s got work on his site for Snickers, Starburst, et cetera, that’s written wicked brainiac smart. (He actually got a reference to Jonas Salk onto a Snickers board. Yes, I’m jealous.) It’s so refreshing to see work that assumes consumers are smart enough to get it. Tip o’ the Hat.

Grant Smith

Picture-1

Grant is a freelance copywriter/CD at Handsome Advertising, BBDO NY before that, Cliff Freeman before that. He shares his site with creative partner Richard Artdito. Their book almost forced me to break my “one piece per post” rule. Their Red Stripe campaign is amazing. They also did a Budget Moving Truck campaign (in their Alternative Media section) that’s equally amazing. In the end, I choose beer over trucks. Go figure.

Jeff Gillette

Picture-1

Jeff is a copywriter/CD at Google Creative Lab in NYC, CP+B before that. I love the look and functionality of his site. It’s super clean. As you would expect, there’s a lot of great work. But what really blows me away are his inventions. In addition to being an ACD/copywriter, Jeff is an inventor. A real inventor. As in, he makes stuff. Check out Coffee Coals®. If they were at Target, everyone on my Xmas list would have ’em.
