Sam Hoffman

Sam is a new copywriter at RPM (an agency that specializes in marketing for Broadway, so cool) in NYC and a recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. All kinds of fun stuff on his site, from campaigns for Reynolds Wrap (above) and Pill Pack, to a book “Where Good Apples Go Bad” for Angry Orchard Cider, to his killer IG feed. Dig it.

Portfolio: samuelhoffman.net

Pete Pirone

Pete is a copywriter at Newell Brands in NYC, before that Macy’s. His book is mostly a mix of spec projects (always fun to see), including work for Whole Foods, Citi Bike, Squarespace, Snyder’s, GNC, and Cartoon Network (above). He’s also got separate pages dedicated to digital writing and personal projects—the latter focused on Walt Disney World, of which Pete is a huge fan. (As is MC.) “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” – Mary Poppins.

Andrew Boyer

Andrew is a copywriter at Publicis Seattle. All kinds of cool projects for T-Mobile on his site. Also, don’t miss “One Night” for the iPhone 7 launch. “To highlight the iPhone’s new low-light camera, we commissioned 22 everyday iPhone users across 6 continents to capture one single night on Earth from dusk to dawn.” Beautiful.

Sarah Weigl

Sarah is a copywriter/CD at McGarrah Jessee in Austin. Since her last post on MC (back on 10.29.14), she’s been busy. Whole bunch of new work up on her site, including videos for SkinnyPop (love the kick-Roomba vid), print for Yeti coolers (killer lines), and “Alexa, Apologize” (above), which is oh so timely at this particular moment. Love it.

Portfolio: weiglbecausegl.com

Steve Swartz

Steve is an art director/writer/designer/CD in St. Louis. All kinds of cool projects on his site—including NASCAR (above). Love his “the me” page, too, including his description of what we do for a living and Menards Home Improvement stores: “For fun I carve out spaces in people’s heads for widgets and services in an over-crowded, post-need, first-world-problem marketplace. Just kidding. For real fun I shop at Menards. The answer to a question nobody asked. What if Cracker Barrel and Home Depot had a love child?” Nailed it.

Grant Smith

Grant is a freelance copywriter/CD in NYC. His portfolio was one of the first posted on MC way back on 12.16.09, almost 10 years ago (how has it been that long?). It was amazing then—and even more amazing now. His site is one long page of killer projects including New York Lotto, FedEx, BBC World, Toyota, AT&T, Red Stripe (classic), Monster, Mountain Dew, Footlocker, Fox Sports, Guinness, and Vonage (above). Stoked to have Grant back up on MC.

Portfolio: grantsmithadvertising.com

Seth Prandini

Seth is a freelance copywriter/ACD in Santa Monica. He spent the first 11+ years of his career at one shop, RPA, and since then has freelanced for a long list of agencies that would make any writer jealous, including Crispin, Goodby, 72andSunny, WONGDOODY, PHENOMENON, Saatchi, and 180LA. (Nice.) Be sure to check out his photo filter for The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (so simple) and his video for Google Play Music (above). Good times.

Shea Tullos

Shea is a senior copywriter at Cactus in Denver. Since his last post on MC (back on 02.05.16, almost exactly three years ago), he’s been busy—and making the most of the cool opportunities he’s getting at Cactus. Lots of new Colorado Lottery TV work and the commercial debut of KC’s Patrick Mahomes (who should have been in yesterday’s Super Bowl, ahem) for CommunityAmerica Credit Union. Definitely time for an update.

Greg Reese

reece

Greg is a freelance copywriter/CD in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Before going out on his own, he was a copywriter/CD at agencies like Organic, Hanon McKendry, Doner, and JWT. Today, he and partner Carolyn Reese (editor/proofreader) share a business and have projects on their site for brands like Merrell, Priority Health, Grand Valley State University, Haworth, Hudson Ice Cream, Ford, and Nike. Pretty cool.

Portfolio: reesecopy.com

Audria Culaciati

Audria

Audria is a copywriter/editor in Santa Barbara, CA. MC gets asked all the time, what do I do if I don’t have any big ad campaigns yet? Or, forget big ad campaigns, what if I’m not an agency/brand writer—what if I write product copy, website copy, email campaigns, etc.? Audria’s site is one example of how to do it. At the time of this post, she’s got three projects up—for Sonos (product copy), Women’s Heritage (zine), and Topa Topa Brewery (product copy). That’s not a lot of content, but you definitely get the vibe for what she’s all about. Dig it.

NOTE: MC would love to see more portfolio sites like Audria’s—that do a good job of showing off work that’s product, retail, in-house, or website-focused. Such a demand for it right now. Send ’em in if you’ve got ’em!

Senior Copywriter Wanted: Grow, Norfolk, VA

grow logo

Tessie Krzywicki, Operations & Recruiting Coordinator at Grow in Norfolk, Virginia, is on the hunt for a senior copywriter. From Grow: “We’re a team of close-knit creatives, technologists, strategists, and producers whose skills are matched only by our dedication. Our hard work put us on the map, and our commitment to creative innovation keeps us there. We strive to put that same level of energy into everything we touch, whether building a global campaign or a better neighborhood.

Our senior copywriter will play a central role on nearly every project by connecting strategic insights to inspiring digital ideas. We’re looking for a digital native who is a conceptual thinker, a skilled communicator, and a valuable creative partner. A successful candidate will show an inspiring book of work, a meticulous eye for detail, a collaborative work style, and a compelling approach when presenting ideas.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Partner with art directors and multi-disciplinary teams to create strategic, industry-leading digital concepts.
  • Present to clients, partners, and internal teams in a professional and inspiring manner.
  • Lead communication and content creation throughout all phases of a project, including discovery, concepting, pitching, production, and launch.
  • Contribute to Grow’s communication around projects, company strategy, and community.
  • Consistently expand and share knowledge of industry trends and emerging ideas.

This is a full-time position at our office in downtown Norfolk, VA. Grow offers paid relocation and temporary housing for selected candidates.

Amazing clients and atmosphere come standard, but what you’ll love most is our close-knit team of inspiring talent, just under 50 of us in total. We’re part of a community of like-minded people in the Norfolk / Virginia Beach metro who spend our time creating great work and building culture around us—with lovely beaches, urban amenities, and family-friendly opportunities throughout the region.

You’ll start with a full month of paid vacation and holiday leave, including two weeks in which the company pauses operations—one at midsummer and one at the holidays. A wealth of additional company benefits include health, dental, matching 401k, disability, paid training, and more.”

Alan Snider

pistacios

Alan is a copywriter/ACD at The Wonderful Company in Los Angeles and a graduate of Second City (which once again proves MC’s theory that comedians, surfers and drummers make great copywriters). Since his last post on MC (back on 09.16.14) he’s been busy. All kinds of cool new projects up on his site, including Clay Matthews of the Green Bay Packers for Wonderful Pistachios (above). What a killer in-house gig Alan’s got at The Wonderful Company, with brands like Wonderful Pistachios, FIJI water, POM Wonderful, and Halos. Dig it.

Copywriter Wanted: Cactus, Denver

cactus

Erin Conrad, Talent Manager at Cactus in Denver, is also on the hunt for a Copywriter. (See previous post for open Junior Art Director position.) Love it.

From Cactus: “Cactus is a small agency doing innovative, bold and imaginative work for a growing list of great clients. We aim to make our work and our portfolios better every day, with every project, and we’re committed to developing thought-provoking ideas and executions that make our corner of the planet a better place to live, work and play. We’re looking for someone with outstanding talent and tireless passion to help us further our mission and add to our agency mojo.

To be seriously considered, candidates will have roughly 2-5 years of agency experience and an exceptional portfolio of work that displays superior conceptual ideation skills, strong headlines, well-written copy and the ability to produce integrated campaigns across digital, video and 2D media. At Cactus, we value your personality and character just as much as your work, so you’ll also need to be someone with a collaborative, team-centric spirit, a solution-oriented mindset, and someone who strives to make every project into something great.

If that’s you, get in touch. You just might be the one we’re looking for.”

Sara Muchnick

sara

Sara is a new copywriter at DDB in San Francisco and a recent graduate of Miami Ad School. First thing you’ll notice is that she’s redesigned her Squarespace site to look like a Spotify page (above). How cool is that? Cool. Super interesting mix of projects on her site, including Kanye West’s platform for his 2020 run, U.S. of Ye. One can only imagine.

Portfolio: saramuchnick.com

Saurabh Kejriwal

lenore

Saurabh is a freelance copywriter in Berlin, originally from India. What a cool portfolio. His work is organized into pages titled Innovation, Digital, Film, Integrated, Print, and Personal (though some projects are featured on multiple pages). Don’t miss his odes to skirts, shirts, trousers, scarves and socks for Lenor (above). Super fun.

Mike Haftel

Mike is a freelance senior copywriter in San Francisco. Since his last post on MC (back on 01.09.15), he’s been busy. His new projects include a social media launch for the Xbox One X “Feel True Power” campaign (above), creative strategy and a cinematic spot for Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Siege game, and a global 360 campaign for Microsoft Cloud. Time for an update!

Portfolio: mikehaftel.com

Dan Goldgeier

containertwo

Dan is a freelance senior copywriter and Talent Zoo columnist in Seattle. His site features projects for a wide variety of clients (as one would expect from the portfolio of a long-time freelancer) in addition to a couple of books. “View From The Cheap Seats” is a collection of Dan’s favorite Talent Zoo columns. “Killer Executions And Scrubbed Decks” is a book about the most obnoxious advertising jargon. Described by Dan: “Scope Creep. Curation. Deliverable. Pain Point. And more. All the nonsensical terms used in our industry, conveniently defined.” MC thinks that’s a real win-win.

Portfolio: dangoldgeier.com

Charlotte Frost

charlotte

Charlotte is a senior content specialist at Hilton Grand Vacations in Orlando. From her This Is Me page: “I’m an Orlando-based content specialist and brand strategist with some PR know-how in my back pocket. Storytelling has been my jam since I was a kid. Telling the stories of industry leaders and small businesses is my bread and butter.” MC couldn’t sum it up better than that.

Nike: Dream Crazy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq2CvmgoO7I

It’s rare that MC posts a project rather than a portfolio. But every once in a while, something comes along that’s so well-written it just needs to go up. Still trying to track down the W+K copywriter who penned this one, will add the credit when she/he is found.

Back in the day, Janet Champ’s poetry for Nike Women (1988-93) is what inspired MC to get into copywriting in the first place. Thirty years later, it’s so cool to see W+K continuing to put writing out there, for the same brand, that really means something. Still setting the bar.

Paul Suggett

Bankers

Paul is a freelance copywriter/CD in Denver (last featured on MC way back on 02.08.2012). He’s got a killer portfolio site with all kinds of cool work including lots of entertainment projects from his time at Starz, but it was his stock photo headline site, Stoccopy, that was forwarded to MC from designer/CD at Noise13, Peter Judd (big ups, Peter!). Paul’s description at the top of the site: “Crappy stock headlines for crappy stock photos. You’re welcome.” So bad. So good. Links to both sites below.

Andrew Jolliffe

duracell-1

Andrew is an independent strategic/creative copywriter/CD in Paris, after 26 years at Ogilvy, BBH, and leading his own shop. His site is in a blog format, so visitors can scroll through all of his projects on one page. Per Andrew, you’ll find: “Some work snippets. Not the full catalogue but an eclectic mix of  strategies, ads and content. Or if you like, a sweet-shop of flavours, colours and tones. After all, brands’ personalities depend on them.” Dig it.

Corey Rosenberg

yelp

Corey is a copywriter/CD in San Francisco. Every creative has heard (more than once) that advertising is a mix of art and business. In Corey’s case, so is his portfolio site. In addition to his projects, he’s also got merchandise and educational videos for sale, which anyone can purchase right off the site. Also, don’t miss his Testimonials page. That’s a lot of love.
